I chanced upon this blog, which seems to take a dig at the complexity that enterprise management software vendors push to their customers - complex software and labor to manage the complexity. I have heard the holy grail story of completely auto-piloted enterprise management with ITIL and CMDB from the strategist who drive these complexity. This blog gives a real-life perspective on the BS these vendors try to push and make money.
The analogy I would draw for ITIL/CMDB based management is the SEI CMM based software development - may be we really need a lean enterprise management. See the article "ITIL’s dead elephant: CMDB can't be done"
