Domestic Elephants - time to stop the harassment

Kerala, southern state of India is famous for its domestic elephants, which are mainly used for moving timber from forests to the rivers and to adorn the festivals in Hindu temples. There is a bit of divinity attached to these poor animals. They are indeed well respected in many parts of kerala, but their lives are not that easy among the humans.

Needless to say, this is an unnatural phenomenon and animal-rights violation by human beings. The number of accidents or the elephants going wild in public festivals are reported very frequently. The latest was a child mahot killed by a live eletric wire.

It is time to stop this madness and ban the domestic use of these wild animals by human beings and let them back to where they belong - in the forests ?
