This morning I went to checkout the high end cycles at BumsOnTheSaddle a part time entrepreneurship by Rohan Kini and Nikhil Eldurkar in Jayanagar, Bangalore. They are simply chasing their passion, cycling! Out of their frustration of not having cycle shops with good service and know-how on the latest cycles, they just started their own venture! I wish I had such courage and drive to chase my passion - or maybe I do, but I haven't made news yet:) I conveyed my appreciation for setting such a thing up, the first of a kind in India I would think.
You need to setup an appointment with them on saturdays (the only day they are open!) to meet them. I discussed with them my needs - cross training for running(half marathon being the current target) and the fact that I am no expert in this game. I tried circling around on a trek(the high end one on show), but couldn't really feel the high-end comfort. So they recommend a low end Firefox target or an entry level trek, at 10K and 16K respectively. Though I am inclined to get one of it, I am worried about it being underutilized, and ending up as a show-piece in my parking lot or home. I also checked a normal bike shop whether Hero Thunder was available. The guy was a usual cycle dealer, not really interested in showing things to me though I was interested in a high end cycle. Instead he was helping a family help find a good cycle for their child. May be they looked more inclined to buy than me!
So at this point I am still undecided, if I am spending 6-7K on a normal bike, I can as well stretch and buy a Target, and if I can stretch a bit more, I can buy a trek. Also if you consider the buying experience, buying from BumsOnTheSaddle may be worth all the money. And they are experts, willing to listen to novices like me and help. So I might as well pick one from them! I sure want to support them in their endeavor too in addition to buying a bike for me. So may be I have decided from where to buy, the only thing left may be whether it is the Trek or Target!
